Welcome to Maxiflex
Osteoarthritis is the erosion of articular cartilage and is one example of what can go wrong in a joint. For horses with osteoarthritis, the balance between the break down and synthesis of the extracellular matrix is disrupted and results in destruction of the tissue. Osteoarthritis is a major cause of lameness in performance horses and can be a painful condition that can significantly shorten a horse’s career.
Maxiflex has proven success rates. These include a foal with a fractured lateral splint bone (near fore leg under knee joint). Several X-rays and acute lameness indicated that the foal should be destroyed at 6 weeks. Subsequently at 3 years of age the horse was broken in and ridden constantly since that time. This horse has now been staying sound and competing on Maxiflex for over 12 years.
